Myths About Ductless Mini Split Systems Debunked

Ductless mini split air conditioning systems are relatively new technology. Since the general public isn’t as familiar with them, there are some myths circulating about these systems’ supposed downfalls that we’re here to debunk.

Los Angeles Mini Splits offers ductless mini split installation, repair, and maintenance in the Los Angeles metro area, Santa Monica, Burbank, Glendale, Ventura, Orange County, and throughout Southern California. Let’s learn why these systems may be just the HVAC solution you need.

Myth #1) Ductless Mini Split Units Provide Bad Air Quality

One myth about ductless mini split units is that they circulate dust, dirt, bacteria and spores. In fact, the truth is the opposite of this myth; mini splits contain filters to clean your air.

These filters are much easier to clean than the filters in a ducted system. With central air, you need to hire an HVAC technician to clean your ducts since they’re so hard to reach. With mini split units, you can just take the filter out of the machine yourself and clean it with soap and water.

Myth #2) Ductless Mini Split Units Cool Rooms Unevenly

One of the major problems with old window-mounted AC units is that they cool rooms unevenly. They may cool the air near the unit, but they have trouble reaching the far corners of rooms.

Wall-mounted mini split units do a better job of cooling the entire room than old window-mounted units. They can also be adjusted to different temperatures for different rooms. Within rooms, temperatures are even and comfortable.

Myth #3) Ductless Mini Split Units Can Only Be Installed in New Construction

Just like the other two myths, this is the opposite of the truth. Central air is easier to install in new construction since the design of the building can take into account the location of ducts and vents. It’s much more difficult to install in old buildings because it involves knocking out walls and ceilings.

Ductless mini splits, on the other hand, are perfect for both old and new construction. If you live in an old house without central air, mini splits will provide great heating and cooling without the need for complex renovations to install ductwork.
