A heat pump is a mechanism that transfers heat from one place to another. Your refrigerator is a form of heat pump; it removes heat from the air inside the fridge, making it cold for food storage. When used for heating and cooling a home, heat pumps either transfer heat from the inside of your home to the outside, making your home cooler, or from the outside to the inside, making it warmer.

Heat pumps can therefore be used as both AC and heating. They can replace both your bulky air conditioning units and your gas furnace. Even better, they don’t require ducts to function, making them versatile and able to be placed wherever they’re needed.
